Margaret Coleman "Peggy" Fosse

Peggy Fosse was born in Lynchburg, VA to Paul Hill Coleman and Margaret Barker Coleman.

She attended Garland-Rodes School in Lynchburg, VA, and graduated from New Trier Township High School in Winnetka, IL, and Hollins College in Hollins, VA.

She married Robert Earle Fosse, an Episcopal pastor, in 1959. Together they had three sons, Robert Earle Fosse, Jr., John Barksdale Fosse (deceased), and William Carey Fosse. 

For over a decade she taught in the Flagstaff, AZ public school system, earning a master’s degree in education from Northern Arizona University. 

In California, Peggy served as director of an organization aiding battered and abused women and worked with Planned Parenthood.

Her retirement years in Lynchburg were spent with many friends and with family, whom she dearly loved. Peggy taught the learning disabled, sang in retirement homes, and served her community. 

She is survived by her sisters Laura Coleman Keith and Henrietta Carey Barksdale and their spouses Robert Keith and Michael Ross, son Robert Fosse and family Suzanne Etcheverry, Erica Fosse and Matt Fosse, and son Carey Fosse. 

She will be remembered for her warmth and laughter, her dedication to helping others, and her love of music. 

Her memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Tharp Funeral Home, in Lynchburg, VA.
