Margaret Doering Coleman died on January 8, 2016. Born in Lynchburg on September 4, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Nell VanRiper Doering and Frank Laverne Doering. Margaret was the widow of Edward Franklin Coleman, her husband of 65 years. She is survived by three children, Edward Franklin Coleman, Jr. and his wife, Angela of Amherst County, Jane C. Rechenbach and her husband, Douglas of Richmond, and Thomas Doering Coleman of Forest. She has eight grandchildren, Margaret C. Laird and her husband, Ben, Edward F. Coleman, III and his wife, Megan, Charles P. Coleman and his wife, Sarah, Virginia C. Blanks and her husband, Ryan, Elizabeth I. Rechenbach, Sara R. Clark and her husband, Eric, Keri G. Coleman, and Chase R. Coleman; and ten great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Coleman was a life-long member of Court Street United Methodist Church, as were her parents. Her special interest and devotion was to the United Methodist Women. She was also a long-time member of the Lynchburg Women’s Club.
She was very supportive of her husband’s land development and home building business. Some of the projects in which she participated were Blumont Estate, Hunter’s Creek and Clay’s Crossing, all in Forest, Virginia.
She enjoyed her years at Westminster Canterbury and the friendships that were made in such a caring place.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2016, at Westminster Canterbury with Rev. Kristie Miles officiating. The family will receive friends after the ceremony in the Hume Room.
