Margaret Evelyn Sherman

Margaret Evelyn Fannon Sherman, 73, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Lynchburg General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 27, 1938 in Big Stone Gap, VA, she was a daughter of the late Peter Bryant Fannon and Katherine Shuler Fannon.

A graduate of Radford College and the University of Virginia, Margaret was a retired educator with more than 30 years of dedicated service in Bedford County Public Schools. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

In retirement, Margaret was a master seamstress, who performed alterations on anything from wedding dresses to business slacks. She will be remembered for her strong love of life, lively sense of humor, and deep faith. She was extremely proud of her family and their accomplishments.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by one brother, James Fannon, and two sisters, Lois Williams and Sarah Solomon. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Paul D. Sherman; a son, Lieutenant Colonel Paul D. "Chip" Sherman, Jr., of Mons, Belgium; a daughter, Margaret Sherman "Nicki" Draper and her husband, Powell, of Pound Ridge, NY; her granddaughter, Sarah Jo Draper; one sister, Rebecca King, of Pineville, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Tuesday, November, 15, 2011, at Main Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bart Weakley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, (540)-586-3443.
