Margaret Hite Elder passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a sudden illness.
She was born in Covington, VA on December 30, 1935 to Russell R. Hite and Sadie Hite. Margaret suffered through the effects of Polio her entire childhood but still persevered to become a nurse and graduated from Lynchburg General Hospital Nursing School in 1956 and then worked at Lynchburg General Hospital as a RN in the operating room for 44 years before retiring in 2001. She was also a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Sadie Hite and her loving husband Walter L. Elder.
Margaret is survived by her two sons, Ronnie Elder and wife, Elizabeth of Lynchburg, VA, Kenneth Elder and wife Donna of Evington, VA; four grandchildren, Kristy Seamster and husband Tommy, Ashlee Elder, Cameron Elder and Courtney Elder and four great-grandchildren, Thomas, Cheyenne, Sterling and Ashlyn Seamster. She is also survived by her sister Anne Hite of Daleville, VA, brother Russell (Buddy) Hite and wife Judy of Mechanicsville, VA and her sister Dottie Ward and husband Jack of Roanoke, VA and her dear friend of many years Betsy Kemp of Lynchburg.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Celebration of Margaret’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2016 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with Rev. Dr. Robert Putt and Chaplain Wayne Lanham officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
