Margaret Larkin

Margaret (Peggy) Power Larkin, 89, died peacefully at the Summit Assisted Living on Thursday, March 07, 2013. She was the wife of the late William Joseph Larkin.

Born January 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Hannah Cullen Power of Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland. She was educated by the Sisters of Charity at Star of the Sea Convent in Tramore.

In 1946, Mrs. Larkin emigrated from Ireland to New York City where she met William Larkin, whom she married on January 29, 1949. They moved to Oak Ridge, where Mr. Larkin was appointed Assistant Director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology\"™s Engineering Practice School at Union Carbide. She became a US citizen in 1952.

Mrs. Larkin was a resident of Oak Ridge, TN from 1949 until 2006 except for 1969-1973 when she and her husband lived in Las Vegas, NV. In 2006, she moved to Lynchburg, VA to be near her son and his family.

While in Oak Ridge, Mrs. Larkin was a member of St. Mary\"™s Catholic Church and was active in St. Therese\"™s Guild. After moving to Lynchburg, she became a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. She was an avid bridge player, an activity she enjoyed until the last few years.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, May Tobin, Joan Cullinan, and Kathleen Merrigan, and three brothers, Michael, Richard, and John Power, all of Ireland.

She is survived by her son Dr. Lawrence Douglas Larkin and his wife, Jane McCandliss Larkin; two granddaughters, Dr. Lisa Marie Larkin and her husband, Mark Fara, and Maureen Larkin Wilson and her husband, Dean Wilson; and one great-grandson, Logan Steele Wilson, all of Lynchburg, VA. She is also survived two brothers, Patrick Power and his wife, Renee, and Maurice Power and his wife, Margaret, all of Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary\"™s Catholic Church in Oak Ridge, TN.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Summit Assisted Living, Centra Hospice, and Home Instead for their excellent care of Mom.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 Roundelay Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502, or to a charity of your choice.
