Margaret Ruth Harrell Youngblood, age 90, died on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at The Summit in Lynchburg, Va. She was the wife of Grover C. Youngblood, Jr. for 66 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Sarah Y. Heideman, and son-in-law Kurt G. Heideman of Lynchburg, Va.; and three grandchildren, Kevin H. Heideman (fiancé Alison Reynolds) of Alexandria, Va.; Rachel D. Heideman of Richmond, Va.; and Mark E. Heideman of Glen Allen, Va.
Margaret Ruth was born June 24, 1926 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, the only child of the late Reverend Ira Speight Harrell and Sarah Blanchard Harrell. She grew up in South Mills, N.C. and graduated with a B.A. in Education from Mary Washington College. She taught school for several years before becoming a mother. Throughout her life she was always active in church, and volunteered with Girl Scouts, Reading for the Blind, and Meals on Wheels. She was a soprano soloist in high school and college, and continued singing in church choirs for many years. Margaret Ruth was a loving wife, wonderful mother, proud Grammy, and caring friend to all.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Kathleen Paul and Centra Hospice for their compassionate care during Margaret Ruth’s battle with multiple myeloma.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Forest Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Morgan Whitfield officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m., and a luncheon reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Forest Presbyterian Church (1226 Two Church Lane Forest, Va. 24551) or to The Summit Benevolent Fund (1400 Enterprise Drive, Lynchburg, Va. 24502.)
