Margarete Pachey

November 5, 1928 — May 28, 2022

Margarete Erna Pachey went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 28, 2022.  She was born on November 5, 1928 to the late Heinrich Christoph Alvermann and Elise Marie Bennecke in Toledo, Ohio.  A graduate of Woodward High School in Toledo, she met her future husband, Henry, at Toledo Scale Company.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Henry G. Pachey.  She was predeceased by sister Alice Moore, sister Ella (Robert) Corcoran, brother Henry (Theresa) Alverman, brother-in-law John (Judy) Pachey, Judy’s daughter Selena Powers, and son-in-law Thomas “Kevin” Cross.

She is survived by her daughters Elaine and husband Armistead Long of Forest, Martha Jane Cross of Delaware, and granddaughters Virginia and Claire Long. Also surviving are brother-in-law Martin and wife Billie Pachey. Surviving nieces and nephews are Alice Ann Bradford, Richard Alvermann, Carol Rupert, Ronald Klawonn, Byron Scott Pachey, Marti Lynn Bessinger, Todd Pachey, Brandon Pachey and Jason Powers.

Margarete was a loving wife, mother, and devout Lutheran. She was very close to her siblings and nieces and nephews. She enjoyed bird watching, playing cards and board games.  She also liked working in her flowerbeds and yard.  A good cook who loved to be in the kitchen, she was known for her homemade bread and cookies.  Her special potato and macaroni salads were always requested at family gatherings.  Having built 2 homes together, she enjoyed the home renovation shows on HGTV.  After his retirement, she and husband Henry enjoyed traveling in their RV.

She wrote her memoirs and family history after much encouragement from son-in-law Army Long.  They were published and distributed to family members in 2017.

She was also very fond of her granddog, Bandit, Martha’s loving Chihuahua.

We want to thank the staff at Guggenheimer and Amedisys Hospice for their loving care.  A special thanks to our friend Nicole.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
