Jesus mercifully reached out and took Marian Linthicum Belcher to her heavenly home on December 9, rescuing her from the ravage of cancer and reuniting her with her husband Garrett. Marian was born in Climax, VA, to the late Joel and Gertrude Linthicum. She was predeceased by her sister Pat Wagoner. She leaves behind her children Scott Belcher (Steve), Cindy Spear (Doug), and Tamara Rosser; her grandchildren Stephanie (Vinson), Shellie, Samuel, Joshua, Josie, Amber (Dylan), Sydney, and Alexis (Shakira); and great-grandchildren Steven (Taylor), Kylia’na, Kor’ryn, Jacob, Ayden, Garrett, Kemari, Cheyanna, Brantley, and Kayson; her brother Herbert Linthicum (Sally), brother-in-law Mark Belcher (Marlene), several nieces and nephews, and special friends Jerry Gunter and Carolyn Harman.
Marian, known as “Granny” by many, was full of life, grace and beauty — inside and out. During her 87 years, she allowed God’s love to shine through her, touching the lives of countless people. We celebrate her incredibly kind, generous, nurturing, loving and feisty spirit. She was a hardworking, determined woman who often exclaimed, “a country girl will survive.” Above all, she loved God and loved her family. Truly she was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman, as “Her children will rise up and call her blessed.”
Marian enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren, whether sports, band, dance or other events. She looked forward to time with family, whether cookouts, birthday parties, trips to the local orchards or peaks, special vacations or dancing to country music on the deck with her son-in-law. Her beautiful smile and twinkling eyes would light up the room.
Marian was Director of Materials Management for Westminster-Canterbury, retired, then worked for EXL (imaging vendor for Genworth) before retiring again at the age of 85. She was a member of Tree of Life Ministries.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Tree of Life Ministries on Saturday, December 12, at 11:00 a.m. with doors opening at 10:00 a.m. for viewing. Social distancing guidelines will be followed. The service will be live-streamed at: live.tolm.net. A private graveside gathering of family and close friends will follow at New Bethel Church of the Brethren in Climax.
