Marian Ruth Barnard, 84, of Lynchburg, VA, died Wednesday, October 31, 2018. She was the wife of the late James Noell Barnard.
Born January 10, 1934 in Campbell County, Marian a daughter of the late William Payne Phillips and the late Florence Arthur Phillips
In addition to her husband and parents, Marian was preceded in death by her first husband, Marion Thomas Payne, and two sisters, Phyllis P. Phillips and Edna P. Wyatt.
Marian is survived by her children, Dale Rickwood, and her husband, Clive, and Thom Payne and his wife, Linda, three grandchildren, John Travis Maddox, Carrie Payne, and Adrian Payne, two great grandchildren, J.T. Maddox and Caleb Payne, a brother, Marvin T. Phillips, three nieces, Jan Phillips, Jennifer Phillips, and Lynne Wheeler, a nephew, Ronnie Phillips, and numerous great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marian was a loving, devoted and fiercely loyal mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Having worked for 32 years in social services, she devoted most of her life to helping other people. Marian was strong above all things. She accepted people for who they were. Having grown up on a dairy farm, she treasured those memories and enjoyed nature. An Alumni of Lynchburg College she remained active with the college. Loving big bold jewelry, the more bling the better.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Marian’s life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Tharp, Lynchburg, with Pastor Cathy Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Evington.
