Marian Yvonne Nowlin was born on March 27, 1936 to the late Theresa N. Nowlin and Hurley Nowlin, Sr.
She graduated from Campbell County High School in Rustburg, Virginia and was a life subscribing adult member of the NAACP.
With strong family roots, she established her home not far from where it all began in the Fairview Heights community of Lynchburg, Virginia.
As a loyal employee of General Electric (G.E.), later Ericsson, she made many acquaintances and several faithful friends before her retirement. One in particular, Mr. Tom Butterfield, encouraged Marian’s love and appreciation for God, family and quality time. She enjoyed seeing the beauty in nature and her community- walks along the James River, attending plays and musical performances, taking trips and sightseeing as the Lynchburg of her youth evolved to new homes, roads, and businesses.
Her church home, The Greater Brookville Baptist Church, was a place of joy and service. Until the onset of her illness, she enjoyed attending Bible Studies, Vacation Bible School, taking computer classes and serving alongside the other members of the Clothing Ministry and the Lovely Zion Missionary Circle.
Marian is survived by her three siblings James Nowlin, Sr. (Carentha), Ruby Carr (Joseph), and Hurley Nowlin, Jr.; her two children, Osby Nowlin, Sr. (Gale) and Bonita Nowlin; grandchildren, Osby Nowlin II (Trena), Tawana Mason (Matthew), Jolito Rivera, and Tamia James; great-grandchildren, Hannah Mason, Taylor Mason, and Amira Rivera, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She departed this life on December 24, 2018 in the peace and comfort of her home with loved ones.
To each of us who knew this sweet spirit – whether as Marian or Mom, Sister, Grandma or G.G. – one fact remains, she knew Jesus was the way.
