Marilyn Turner Mocksfield, 84, of Moneta, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 20, 2018. She was the loving wife of Herbert “Herb” William Mocksfield. In addition her husband, she is survived by their children, Alan Charles Mocksfield (Jennifer) and Gail Susan Royer (Robert); grandchildren, Bethany Royer Knowlton (James), Kelly Royer Whipple (David), Noah Charles Mocksfield, Owen Brooks Mocksfield; a great-grandchild, Emmet Robert Knowlton; four nephews, and many special friends.
Marilyn was born October 15, 1934, in Jersey City, NJ, a daughter of the late Bertha and Harry Turner. Marilyn worked as a registered nurse for hospice as an infection control nurse. After her retirement, she became a member of the SML Nurses Association, Rubber Maids Bridge Club, and SML Water Control Committee. Marilyn enjoyed the outdoors and would spend much of her time gardening. She and her husband Herb created and maintained the Booker T. Washington National Park and Bluebird Trail. Marilyn especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She and Herb found many other exciting things to do in the Smith Mountain Lake community, like becoming Master Naturalists of the BRFAL Division.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, John Henry Turner and Joan Lorme (Raymon).
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, Monday, October 29, 2018 at Trinity Ecumenical Parish at In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Medi Home Health & Hospice, 4415 Pheasant Ridge Road, Suite, 102, Roanoke, VA 24012-5275.
