Marion “Joe” Wilson Irvine, 96, of Lynchburg, Va., died Tuesday, November 22, 2016. He was the husband of Lucy Newcomb Irvine for 69 years.
Born Thursday, February 5, 1920 in Rockbridge County, Va., Joe was a son of the late John William Irvine and the late Lucille Reid Irvine.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by two daughters, Donna Sue Irvine, of Lynchburg, and Mary Jo Sisler and her husband, Steve, of Monroe, a grandson, James Michael Irvine, and his wife, Missy, of Forest, a great grandson, Michael Irvine, of Forest, a brother, Delbert D. Irvine, of California, two sisters, Lillian I. Smith, and her husband, Orville, and Elsie I. Hall, and her husband, Oscar, both of Lexington, Va.
Joe was a hardworking man who was dedicated to his family. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Joe loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of Shiloh UMC, and IOOF Lodge of Goode for over 50 years.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m.to 2 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 in Virginia Memorial Park, Forest, with Pastor Allan Monfils officiating.
