Marion Anna Proffitt Barrs, 92, of Amherst, Va., died Sunday, June 19, 2016.
Born Monday, February 4, 1924 in Baltimore, Md., Marion was a daughter of the late Manson Heath Proffitt and the late Marietta Tinner Proffitt.
Marion is survived by her adopted son, Steve Wilson Hartless Austin and his wife, Ida, a sister, Mae A. Hartless, and a brother, Manson H. Proffitt.
In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Austin and Lewis Barrs, four sisters, Dorothy P. Novell, Alice P. Crouch, Joan P. Martin, and Kathleen P. Simpson, a brother, Weston J. Proffitt, close friends, Edna White, Donald Johnson, and Sylvia Pickle, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marion was a very giving person, who cared greatly about others. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed reading her bible. She loved animals. Marion was always ready to go, especially if there was a sale somewhere.
A Celebration of Marion’s life will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 2 p.m. at New Beginning Tabernacle, 1886 S. Coolwell Road, Madison Heights, with Rev. Gary Moore officiating.
