LYNCHBURG

Mark Aaron Sloman, 60, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023.  He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Flora Sloman of Charleston, WV.  Mark is survived by his wife of 34 years, Donna Sloman and daughters Sara Sloman (husband, Josh Goodwin) of Richmond, VA and Hannah Sloman of Pelham, NC.  He is survived by his best dog buddies Birdie and Lucy.  He is survived by his sister Cindy Sloman Burnette (fiancé, Steve Woomer) of Scott Depot, WV and nephews Christopher Johnson and Jeffrey Burnette. Mark is also survived by Mickey and Wade Martin of Forest, VA and their daughters Kris Paul and Kelli LaPrade.

Mark was born and raised in Charleston, WV.  Shortly after graduating from West Virginia University, he moved to Lynchburg, VA.  He married Donna in 1989 and they had Sara and Hannah in 1990 and 1993.  He was a wonderful, loving dad and husband who always took care of his girls.  He built robots and friendships during his over 30 year career as an engineer in Lynchburg.  He enjoyed traveling with coworkers and sharing one of his favorite work trip locations, Southport, NC, with his family.  Athletics were an important part of his life from growing up playing tennis, to running marathons, and frequent YMCA visits.  He was always happy to transition from participant to proud spectator for all of Sara and Hannah’s athletic events when they followed in his footsteps.  He was also there cheering them on in all of their important life events.  Mark was always willing to help family, friends, neighbors and strangers.  He would do anything for anyone and had friends wherever he went.  He loved his human and canine family very much.  We will always miss him.

If you wish, memorial contributions can be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society or the charity of your choice.  A good deed or petting a dog would also make Mark very happy.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held on November 18th at the Legacy Oaks Neighborhood Clubhouse, 100 Legacy Oaks Place, from 1PM to 3PM.  All are welcome.
