Martha Eleanor Grant McIntosh, 93, of Lynchburg passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Born April 30, 1921, in Okonee County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Edward Grant and the late Delphia Lusk Grant. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Kenneth Henry McIntosh; a son, Raymond James McIntosh; two grandsons: Dennis D. McKinney and Richard B. Tweedy; one great-grandson, A.J. Emmett; two sons-in-law: Ralph Fitzgerald and Russell Amos; four sisters: Janie, Lilly, Pearl, and Anthie; and three brothers: John, Leonard, and Jake.
Martha is survived by nine children: Rosa Fitzgerald, Arthur H. McIntosh (Evelyn), Ellaree Amos, Avery K. McIntosh, all of Madison Heights, Ronnie E. McIntosh (Janice) of Amherst, Caroline Seamster (Gary) of Concord, Lynda Burns (Randy) of Forest, Martha Tweedy (Charles) of Goode, and Tony L. McIntosh (Sue) of Fair Play, S.C.; 28 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
Martha was an excellent cook and homemaker. She was an employee of Craddock-Terry Corporation for 14 years. She was a member of Eastbrook Baptist Church. Martha was a wonderful mother of 10 children.
Martha will be deeply missed by her family, extended family and many friends, and a very special friend for many years, Nancy Jennings.
A resident at Avanté Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for three years, she was lovingly cared for and made many friends there. The entire family would like to express their gratitude to the management and staff for the care given to our mother. A special thanks to Brookside. We also would like to thank Centra Hospice for care and support.
A Celebration of Martha’s Life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 23, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Lynchburg, with Pastor Carlton Duck officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will be received at 12 noon, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
