Martha Gascoyne

Martha Jane \"Marjane\" Hiscox  Gascoyne, 78, of Goodview, died Thursday, March 4, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Langworthy Hiscox and Grace Martha Chardavoyne Hiscox.  Marjane is survived by her sister, Edith Jordan; loving and devoted husband, Paul Richard Gascoyne; one daughter, Lisa E. Gascoyne of Roanoke, VA; three sons, William \"Bill\" H. Gascoyne and wife, Dr. Kristin \"Kris\" of San Jose, CA, Henry \"Hank\" L. Gascoyne and wife, Linda of Burnham, ME, and Peter \"Pete\" R. Gascoyne and wife, Judy of Belmont, CA; six grandchildren, Autumn, Paul, Miriam, Aubrey, John and Daniel; five great-grandchildren, Virginia, Macaela,  Isabella, Kiernan, and Trylian, and one baby boy on the way. 

Marjane was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cared more about others than herself.  She was a very loving and giving person. She set an example as a lifelong learner and teacher. With care and perfection in every craft and quilt she fashioned, she inspired warmth and love in the hearts of those who received it.

Prior to moving to Goodview, Marjane and her family resided in Washington, New Jersey where she was briefly involved with the Girl Scouts of America. While acting as Bookkeeper and Secretary Treasure for the preschool, she furthered her education through home study and attained a Master\"™s Degree at Rider College.  She taught Business and Typing classes and introduced computer studies to the school system.  She retired from the Warren Hills Regional School District. She is still fondly remembered by some of her students.

Marjane was a parishioner of Trinity Ecumenical Parish where she was an active member with Ministry of Caring, Altar Guild and Lake Christian Ministries.  She was a member of the Lake Quilters Guild and the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Marjane participated in Water Monitoring and Lake Cleanup at Smith Mountain Lake. She was a Trustee and Treasurer of Pleasure Point Property Owners\"™ Association.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Memorial Garden Fund at Trinity Ecumenical Parish, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, VA 24121 or The American Cancer Society, 9 East Church Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24011.A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Trinity Ecumenical Parish.  Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, SML, 721-9375.
