Jean Williams Berns, 91, of Lynchburg died Friday September 11, 2015. She was the loving wife of the late Arthur A. Berns, Jr.
Jean was born November 4, 1923 in the Shenandoah Valley in Zepp, Virginia to the late Joseph Paul and Martha Swartz Williams. She moved to Fairfax County, Virginia where she graduated from high school. As a young woman, Jean worked as a secretary with the F.B. I. in Washington D.C. She married Arthur and moved to Detroit, MI. She moved from Grosse Pointe, MI to Lynchburg in 1989. Arthur and Jean were active members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by son Paul R. Berns of Augusta, GA, daughter Linda B. Wright of Farmville, three sisters: Doris Hailey of Lynchburg; Patricia Minor of Fredrick, MD; and Joyce Lyles of Lovettsville, two brothers: Jon and Ted Williams both of Manassas, and three grandchildren: Martha Wright of Farmville, Jennifer Berns Chrissis of Perryville, MD, Jonathan Berns of Charleston, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Wayne Williams.
A Memorial Service for Jean will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dennis Roberts officiating. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service where family will receive friends.
