Marvin Buford Peele, Jr.

Marvin B. Peele, Jr., 94, of Monroe, died on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 surrounded by his family. Marvin was born on August 9, 1924 in Scotland County, NC.
He was the oldest son of the late Marvin B. Peele, Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Bullard. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mattie Funk Peele
Marvin served three years in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After returning from service, Marvin was self-employed as a truck driver hauling sand for bricklayers in Maryland for 41 years before retiring in 1989. Marvin was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe and the Amherst-Monroe Ruritan Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Pamela Peele Massiah (Tony) and Diana Peele Burgess (David); daughters-in-law, Nan Lewis and Mimie Peele; four grandchildren, Laura Burgess, Colton Peele, Rebecca Peele and Rachael Peele; and three great grandchildren, Kerstin, Kaleb, and Genevieve; one brother, Horace (Patricia) Peele, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marvin was preceded in death by his two sons, Leland Peele and Louis Peele; his sister Elizabeth White and brothers, Cecil Peele and LeRoy Peele.
A Celebration of Marvin’s Life will be conducted on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Monroe with the Reverend Glynn Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #16.
