Mary Adel “Dell” Anstey

Mary Adel “Dell” Anstey of Dellwood Farm in Rustburg, Virginia, passed away on May 13, 2024 at the age of 91.
Born on April 5, 1933, in Oneida, NY, Mary Adel was the daughter of the late Jesse James and Anna Stabb Brown. She was one of seven siblings. Dell was married to Frederick T. Anstey, her devoted husband of 62 years.
A graduate of Lynchburg College, Dell taught in the Lynchburg public schools before starting her family. Once her children were in school, Dell volunteered within the educational system. Throughout her life, Dell served others, lending her time and compassion to various organizations, including the Lynchburg Literacy Program, Meals on Wheels, Avoca, and Donation a Week Neighbor (DAWN).
Mary is survived by her children: Mark Anstey and his wife Tracy of Rustburg, VA; John Anstey and his wife Dr. Kara Matala of Roanoke, VA; and Amy Anstey Costello and her husband Michael of Lancaster, PA, and her beloved granddaughters: Emily Anstey, Anna Anstey, Charlotte Anstey, and Cara Ann Costello.
Per Mary’s wishes, there will be no visitation or public memorial service. Those who wish to honor her memory can make a charitable contribution to the Salvation Army.Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
