Mary Anne Taylor

September 26, 1946 — July 3, 2024

Mary Anne Taylor (77) of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away suddenly at home on July 3, 2024. She is survived by her beloved husband Herbert E. (“Bart”) Taylor, III, and two sons, G. Branch Taylor and his wife, Wendy, of Owings, Maryland, and Harrison Bain Taylor of Richmond, Virginia. She was predeceased by her daughter, Amy Westbrooke Taylor.

Mary Anne was born in Franklin, Virginia on September 26, 1946, to Mary and Michael Stefanic. She is a graduate of Hopewell High school in Hopewell, Virginia. Mary Anne earned a BA degree from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia, and a Masters in Education from the SUNY Cortland in Cortland, New York.

Mary Anne devoted her life’s work to teaching. She taught elementary and middle school children for over 26 years in both public and private school settings, ending her career at James River Day School. Up until the end, the welfare of her children was of utmost importance to her and every child she taught benefited from her enthusiasm, knowledge and devotion.

Mary Anne was a strong proponent for bringing the Arts into the classroom. Her students regularly participated in musical performances, plays, art exhibitions and Odyssey of the Mind.

Furthermore, she sought to instill in her children the importance of community service including Read-A-Thon for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Mary Anne was a loving and caring wife, mother and friend and will be greatly missed. Although those of us left behind grieve losing her, we know that we will be reunited with her once again. In the meantime, we can rest assured Mary Anne is at peace and that she and her beloved Amy are together once again.
