Mary Frances “Billie” Carter, 78, of Appomattox, went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 18, 2017.
Billie was born on July 11, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, Va., a daughter of the late Joseph Henry Moses and the late Mary Louise Leftwich Moses.
Billie was a very active member of Grace Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She loved her family, her community, and the Lord. She loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, kayaking, and sitting around the campfire with family and friends.
She never missed a class reunion with the seven wonderful ladies known as “the Rowdies”. She was strong and resilient and did not let on how ill she had become, but was up for any adventure. She loved her work as a pet groomer and loved her clients. She was always up for a laugh all the way up to the time the illness claimed her body.
She is survived by a son, Frederick C. Carter, Jr. and his wife, Tracy, of Washington State; two daughters, Laura Carter-Bryant and Beverly Carter, both of Appomattox; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; a sister Dorothy Louise Jones; and many friends. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Herman L. Jones.
We will miss her terribly and she leaves a big empty space in this world, but there is comfort in knowing she is with her mom, her dad, her beloved cat White Whiskers, and her precious Lord, Jesus Christ.
A memorial service for Billie will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hill Baptist Church or the Salvation Army.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
