Mary J. Smith, 79, of Lynchburg, died on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Friendship Manor Health & Rehab in Roanoke. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, and sister. She was the daughter of Shirley Hefner Bucy and the wife to Kenneth L. Smith for 46 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Karrie Bennett of Florida, Dale T. Smith (Jamie) of Lynchburg, and Mark A. Smith (Leah) of Okemos, Mich.; grandsons, Ray and Liam Smith of Okemos, Mich.; brother, Ken of Texas; two sisters, Doris of Washington and Carol of Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles and two sisters, Ada and Sharon.
Mary is a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. She served as a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years with the 3 year old children.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2019, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
In lieu of flowers, she requests to consider donations to the food pantry of Hyland Heights Baptist Church, 11452 Wards Road, Rustburg, VA 24588.
