Mary Lee Noell Hughes, 82, of Lynchburg died Wednesday November 16, 2011. She was the wife of Spencer Monroe Hughes of Lynchburg.
Mary Lee was born October 11, 1929 in Lynchburg a daughter of the late Emory Lee Noell, Sr. and Mary Mildred Jones Noell. Mary Lee retired from Randolph-Macon Woman\"™s College where she was the Admissions Office Secretary for 21 years. She was very active in her community, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society, Mothers\"™ March of Dimes, and the American Heart Association. She served as a former President of the Ragged Robin Garden Club, Historian for the Junior Woman\"™s Club, and taught Sunday school and Weekday School for First Presbyterian Church where she was a member. She also loved bird watching and flower gardening.
In addition to her husband she is survived by two step-sons John Powell Hughes, IV and his wife Deborah and Bowling Keyes Hughes, step-grandson Edward Miles Hughes and his wife Morgan Vaughn Hughes, two step-granddaughters Frances Marie Hughes and Michelle Leslie Hughes, one step great grandson, Frederick Greyson Hughes, two brothers Emory Lee Noell, Jr. and his wife Jeannine, and Robert Wayne Noell and his wife Kristy, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00, November 19, 2011, in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
