Mary Louisa Hammond

P/C Mary Louisa Hammond SN, 88, of Lynchburg, Va. quietly passed away August 26, 2022. She was the loving wife of William S. Hammond III for 68 years. Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, George and Louisa Orndorff of Annapolis, Md.; her brothers, George Orndorff of Melbourne, Fl. and LeRoy Orndorff of Annapolis, Md.; her son-in-law, Jack Simone of Glen Burnie, Md. and great-granddaughter, Elle Sargent of Lynchburg, Va.

Mary was born July 28, 1934, in Baltimore, Md. She was a graduate of Eastern High School and Peabody Conservatory of Music. She was an elementary school teacher and a private piano teacher. Mary retired 21 years ago to Cape Coral, Fl. with her husband. As her health declined Mary and her husband moved to Lynchburg, Va. to be closer to family.

Mary enjoyed sewing, crocheting, camping, and boating. For several decades Mary was active in several United States Power Squadrons: Patapsco River, Dundalk, and Cape Coral. Over the years Mary served many positions on the Bridge, such as Assistant Administrator, Executive Officer, Educational Officer, and Commander.

In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her daughter, Sharon Simone (Jack) of Lynchburg, Va.; her grandchildren: Lisa Pearson (Jeff), Tim Simone (Tami), Lori Rife (Topher), Wendy Newcomb (Chris), Karrie Simone, and Traci Sargent (Darryl); her great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Gillian, Rebecca, David, and Andrew Pearson; Rileyann, Elana, Henry, and Quinn Simone; Ariana, Matthew, Katelyn, Elijah, and Ezra Rife; Aziah, Penelope, and Scarlett Newcomb; and Callie and Kentley Sargent.

The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg Va. at 2:00 p.m. on September 24, 2022, with a Celebration of Life following at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception.
