Mary Margaret Nelson Culbertson, 86, died on October 5, 2023, at Westminster Canterbury Lynchburg, Virginia.  She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert Nelson and William Nelson.

 

She was born on November 2, 1936, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Ray Adelbert Nelson and Margaret Irene Chamberlain.  She was the wife of the late Richard Culbertson.

 

Mary grew up in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, a 1954 graduate of Fort Atkinson High School, and was married to Richard Culbertson in Brookfield, Illinois on June 1, 1957. She came with her husband to Lynchburg, Virginia when he became an Industrial Designer for General Electric.  She was a member of D.A.R., past President of Fort Hill Women’s Club, life member of the Mayflower Society and member of the Falls Chapter Colonial Dames of the 17th century.  She was a member of Peakland United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by her son, David Culbertson, wife, Marlene Dzurec Culbertson, granddaughter, Halle Culbertson Popson and her husband, Collin Popson, and great-grandson, Cody Popson, along with several nieces and nephews.

 

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peakland United Methodist Church or Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg, Virginia.
