Mary Sheppard, 90, a longtime resident of the Summit, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017.
She was predeceased by her husband William T. Sheppard and her siblings, Sonny Maxey and Nellie Elliott.
Mary was born on May 1, 1927 in Rustburg, a daughter of the late John William Maxey and the late Lessie Maxey Quick. She was a devout Christian and a member of College Hill Baptist church and retired from General Electric. She was also a former member of the Ageless Wonders and had volunteered at both Lynchburg General and Virginia Baptist Hospitals.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Jeannie Ferguson (Wesley); her grandchildren Carol F. Precious, Stacey F. Hendricks (Todd), and Christopher E. Ferguson (Janet); her great-grandchildren Jonathan Precious (Dottie), Melissa P. Martin (Jonathan), Crystal Hendricks, and Hannah Campbell; her great-great-grandchildren Skylar, Rylan, Addison, Carlton Wesley, and Isabel. She is also survived by her sisters, Jenny Parish and Pearl Campbell.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. A Funeral service will follow in the Tharp Funeral Home chapel at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Andrew P. Grose officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
