Mary Rose Connelly, 88, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017. She was the widow of the late Thomas Richard Connelly.

Mary Rose was born in Elmira, N.Y., on September 26, 1928. She was formerly employed at Western Union Telegraph Company during World War II and had earned her North Carolina Real Estate License in 1979.

She is survived by her sons: Francis Connelly and wife Cindy of Lanexa, VA, Walter Connelly and wife Maria of Manhattan, NY, and Daniel Connelly of Lynchburg VA, her sisters: Rita Wood of Seminole, FL, Patricia Todd and husband Charles of Elmira, NY, Kathleen Stermer of Elmira, NY, Madeline Jones of Stuart, FL, and Joan Dins and her husband Bill of Medford, OR, four grandchildren: Isobel and Amelia Connelly of Manhattan, NY, Nick Carter of Virginia, and Amanda Carter of Missouri, two great-grandchildren, Calab and Rayanna Carter both of Virginia.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents Gertrude and Walter Lorgan, a brother Walter Lorgan, Jr., and a sister Eileen Sophia.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Friday, June 2, 2017.

A funeral mass for Mary will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Michael D. McCarron officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity or to St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
