She was born in Washington, DC and educated in the following schools: Carver, Brown Middle School and Springarn High School.

Mary was a fun-loving person who joined the church many years ago. She made a true commitment as a strong woman of God. On April 29, 2007, she was inducted as a deaconess at Johnson Memorial Baptist Church in Washington, DC where she happily served for many years, until she returned home to Bedford, VA. She worked as a counselor in the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center and for Volunteers of America in Washington, DC for over 20 years.
