Mary Thacker Arthur

Mary Fannie Thacker Arthur, 80, of Bedford passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on May 27, 1941, in Nelson County, VA. A daughter of the late Cleveland Charlie Thacker and Evelyn Maggie Mays Thacker. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her son, Troy Lynn Arthur, her brother, Cleveland “Buddy” Thacker, sisters, Joyce Mays and her husband, Charles and Vera Mays Shelton. Also preceding in death was her brother-in-law, Dallas Gunter.

Mary was a very dedicated member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church. Her passion for helping other was so obvious. She was always willing to give a helping hand in a time of need. She loved her church family and church activities especially working with the church nursery. Her hobbies consisted of quilting, spending time with her family and friends and she also worked for 16 years for the commission of aging. She was loved dearly and will be missed by all that knew her.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Alvin C. Arthur; son, Travis Lee Arthur and his wife, Karen; Daughter-in-law, Angie Arthur; three grandchildren, Cody, Colton and Camryn Arthur; sisters, Elizabeth Curd and Rebecca Gunter. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and so many friends.

A funeral service and celebration of Mary’s life will be conducted at 11 am on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Phil Kelley and Pastor Randy Harlow officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford.
