Maryjane Sydnor

MaryJane Northen Sydnor, died on February 12, 2019, at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, Va. She was the wife of the late Dr. C. Raine Sydnor, Jr. Born on January 13, 1937, in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of the late Reverend Oscar and Bernetta Northen. She was a graduate of Mars Hill University and the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing.
She is survived by her three children, Raine Sydnor, III (Pam) of Smith Mountain Lake, Paul Sydnor (Reinhild) of Lille, France, and Bernetta Boseman (Jeff) of Forest; six grandchildren, Raine Sydnor, IV, Lanier Sydnor-Jones, Tessa Sydnor, Noah Sydnor, Luke Sydnor and Forrest Wallace; her brother Oscar Northen, Jr. (Glynn) of Nags Head, NC, sister Judy Eastman (Bill) of Chapel Hill, NC; sister-in-law Langhorne Mauck (late Bob) of Martinsville, and Tica Sydnor (late Starke) of Lynchburg, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A committed Christian, MaryJane was raised in South Hill Baptist Church. Upon moving to Lynchburg, she was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, followed by Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where she was actively involved as a church officer, teacher and mentor.
MaryJane was able to influence and connect with many people of all ages throughout her life. Her everyday life reflected her Christian faith and was an example to her family and friends. She especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren. She shared her life experiences as a speaker for the Christian Women’s Club, was a member of the Board of Directors for the Miller Home For Girls and was an active participant of the Lynchburg Garden Club. Her zeal for life was infectious to those who knew her.
The family will receive friends at Westminster Canterbury between 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 in the Hume Room. A memorial service will be conducted at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019, by the Reverend Ron Cox. A reception will immediately follow the service. Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank the staff and hospice team of Westminster Canterbury for their steadfast care of MaryJane in her last days; you truly made her last days peaceful and comfortable.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Sydnor’s family suggests memorial gifts to the mission programs of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Miller Home for Girls or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
