Matthew Robert Manson, Jr.

Mr. Matthew Robert Manson, Jr., known to family and friends as \"Thew\", was born February 6, 1944 in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was the eldest son of the late Matthew Robert Manson, Sr., and the late Katherine Arline Gibson Manson. He departed this earthly life to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, March 5, 2012, at Avante of Lynchburg Nursing Home and Hospice of Lynchburg, Virginia.

At an early age, Matthew accepted Christ into his life and joined the Dearington Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia where he became a faithful member serving in many capacities to include Sunday School Teacher, Usher Board, and Treasurer. In his later years he became a faithful member of the First Baptist Church South Lynchburg where he served as Deacon. 

Matthew attended the public schools of Lynchburg, Virginia. He was a graduate from Dunbar High School, Class of 1962. After graduation, Matthew enlisted in the United States Navy where he served 20 years active duty with an Honorable Discharge, and several years in The Navy Reserve. During his tenure in the Navy, he received several Honors, Awards, and Recognitions. After his discharge, Matthew decided to attend college. He attended Lynchburg Business College and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He also attended the Virginia Seminary and College of Lynchburg where he earned his degree in Theology on three different occasions.

Matthew leaves behind a son, Matthew Robert Manson III; three sisters, Minnie Louise Manson of Lynchburg, Virginia, Kathy Manson Robinson of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Deborah Manson Staley (Albert) of Dalzell, South Carolina; and one brother, Clarence William Manson (Gloria) of Newport News, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Edward Gibson Manson of Lynchburg, Virginia in 2007; three nephews, two nieces, and a host of other relatives and acquaintances.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, March 10, 2012, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
