Maureen Marie Holleran Hammer

November 9, 1953 — December 13, 2020

Maureen Marie Holleran Hammer, 67, of Forest, VA, died Sunday, December 13, 2020.  She was the wife of James John Hammer for 45 years.

Born Monday, November 09, 1953 in Orange. NJ, Maureen was a daughter of the late Bernard Robert Holleran and the late Rose Evelyn Carcio Holleran.

In addition to her husband, Maureen is survived by her son Jamie Hammer and wife Jennie, her daughter Katie Miller and husband Dan; her four grandchildren Harrison, Maddie Jane, and Huxley Hammer and Rose Miller; her two sisters Kathy Holleran and Sue Fernicola; numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

In addition to her parents, Maureen was preceded in death by her brother Tim Holleran.

Maureen lived for her family and friends. She was a proud legal secretary with Edmunds & Williams, and later Wood Rogers, for 42 years.  A Jersey girl born and raised; Maureen met the love of her life on the boardwalk. Maureen traveled the world and weathered all the storms of life together with her love, friend, and companion of nearly 50 years. She was passionately involved in all of her kids’ activities from school, band, and sports.  Her devotion to her children was only matched by her love for her grandchildren.  She was a fiercely loyal matriarch and friend. She was always the first one to be called if there was a problem to be solved and never needed to know more than you needed her help; the ‘why’ didn’t matter. Facing down any obstacle, Maureen was always an optimist and knew things would work. She often made it so. She was stalwart and determined as anyone who tried to tell her “no” can attest. Maureen was the planner and organizer for the family, her friends and for work. Any and all parties or events had a pre-requisite binder for her to “get her bearings”. She had a passion for cooking, a total disregard for the number of dirty dishes involved, and there was always the “right” spoon or bowl.  Her favorite dishes to cook were stuffed shells, baked ziti and Fettuccine Alfredo.  Maureen never met a stranger and wanted to feed everyone. Much like her mother before her, “did you eat yet?” was often the first thing you heard entering the door to her home.  She was an adventurer who loved to travel, have a good time with friends and looked forward to large family get-togethers “down the shore” or in the Outer Banks.

A memorial service will he held, Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
