Maurice Andrew “Sam” Hough of Lynchburg went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, September 30, 2017. He was the loving husband of Linda Bowler Hough for 45 years.
Born October 5, 1930, in Mt. Airy, N.C., he was the son of the late John Fred Hough and Dorothy Croaker Hough.
He was a faithful member of College Hill Baptist Church before becoming a member of Forest Baptist Church and the Pathways Sunday School Class. He served there in many ministries, with one of his favorites being the “chef” at the Mens Prayer Breakfast.
He was retired from Lucent Technologies (formerly Western Electric) where he worked for 40 years.
After retirement, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for 20 years as part of the Mid Week Crew.
He also served with the United States Marines Corp during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post #16.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Lucille Harker and Fredna Tyree; and a brother, John Hough.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joseph Kent Hough and Brian Clay Hough; three daughters, Rhonda Jones (Dave), Tracey Beach (Rev. Bryan) and Terri Pritchett; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Burns-Brown; three nephews; and one niece.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Forest Baptist Church with Pastor Tyler Scarlett officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
The family would like to thank Dr. Laura Robert and her staff. She was a tenacious advocate for her patient and provided understanding care at all times. We would also like to thank Centra Hospice, especially Olinka and Virginia, for their care and concern and would like to express gratitude to Mike Shaw for being an exceptional neighbor and friend.
