Maurice H. Wood

Maurice Henry Wood, 81, of Bedford passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Bedford Co. on January 20, 1936. He was a son of the late Charles Ira Wood and Ruby Rice Wood. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie W. Harris; four brothers, Mack, Charlie, James and Leonard Wood; two brother-in-laws, Clarence “Renny” Brookshier and Carl Blankenship. Also two sister-in-laws, Barbara Wood and Annie W. Mitchell.

Maurice served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He retired from the maintenance department of Rubatex Corp. after 41 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, watching NASCAR and spending time with his family and friends especially his grandkids.

Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elsie M. Wood; a son, Phillip Wood and wife, Kathy; a daughter, Teresa W. Cooke; five grandchildren Tiffany Wood, Cheyene Wood, Amy Harris McKinney, Brandon White and Matthew McCroskey; three great-grandchildren, Cassie Harris, William Tyler McKinney and Dylan S. McKinney; two brothers, Raymond Wood and wife, Carrie and Sherman Wood and wife, Dorothy; four sisters, Mae Brookshier, Eleanor Overstreet, Frances Stanley and husband, William and Joyce Blankenship; brother and sister-in-laws, Ann Wood, Sheree Wood, Jerry “Mac” McMillan, Rosa Garcia.  Also numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

A funeral service and celebration of Maurice’s life will be conducted at 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Chapel. The burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Bedford. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
