Melissa Dawn Goff (Missy), 44, of Big Island passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017. She was the loving wife of Allen Arthur Goff (Bones).

Born May 13, 1972 in Lynchburg, she is the daughter of Joseph D. Bates of Springfield, Ga. and Evan Joan Bates of Lynchburg.

Preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Eddie Lee Rice (Papa), her paternal grandparents: Jimmie and Francis Marie Bates.

She is survived by her two daughters: Amber Dawn Webb of Lynchburg, and Diana Lea Staton of Bedford; also a son: Ronnie Dale Staton of Bedford; brother: Timothy S. Bates of Evington; sister: Angela R. Bates of Lynchburg; three grandchildren: Kaydence Webb of Lynchburg, Alexis and Macie Staton of Bedford; also maternal grandmother, Ester “Nannie” Rice of Lynchburg.

Melissa (Me Ma), as her grandchildren called her, were her pride and joy. A loving mother, daughter, sister and friend that would do anything for anyone if she could.  A Big heart of Gold,  she loved the real country music with a passion.  The Dallas Cowboys and Va. Cavilers were her favorite football teams.  She also enjoyed the beach and riding in the mountains.

Melissa was a “social butterfly” that never met a stranger.  Her telephone was her side kick that never left her side.  Her love for people and her family will never die.

Funeral service will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in Tharp Funeral Chapel Bedford, with Rev. Dave O’Brien officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral.
