Melissa Dargan Hufhand

October 28, 1959 — February 11, 2021

Melissa Dargan Hufhand, 61, of Forest, VA, died Thursday, February 11, 2021.  She was the wife of Brian Lee Hufhand for 34 years.

Born Wednesday, October 28, 1959 in Conway, SC, Melissa was a daughter of the late Archie Shaw Dargan, Jr., and the late Caroline Sleigh Dargan.

In addition to her husband, Melissa is survived by her three children and son in law, Katherine R. Hyland (Scott, Jr) Christianne E. Hufhand and Brian Dargan Hufhand. Additionally, she is survived by three older siblings, Waldeck (Carolyn) Dargan, Caroline Douglas Mackeroll (John) and Louisa Dargan. Also, she is survived by several brother and sister in-laws, Mark and Patricia Hufhand, Daniel and Bethany Weber and Linda Dargan. She is also survived by her loving mother in law, Natalie Hufhand. She was also blessed to have many wonderful nieces and nephews. Melissa was preceded in death by her father in law, Rev. Leland F. Hufhand, her brother Archie Shaw Dargan III, and a sister in law Joyce Chestnut Dargan.

Melissa was the light of her family’s life – dearest wife to Brian, adored mother to Katherine, Christianne and Brian Dargan. She was dearly loved by her brothers, sisters and in laws along with all her nieces and nephews. She loved them dearly and enjoyed spending time with each one of them.

She was an authentic follower of Jesus Christ and her life portrayed that in every way. She reflected the love of Jesus by her grace and kindness to others, she was a servant of God who humbly served her family and many others with any given opportunity. Melissa, especially cherished special family times, whether in Myrtle Beach or at Emerald Isle. There were many memorable beach vacations for 30 plus years with her family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and making those special memories together. Holidays were always made special, because of her. Anytime there was an opportunity to celebrate her husband and children she always made that a priority.

Melissa had many best friends because her kind and endearing spirit. She touched so many lives wherever she lived, whether in VA, PA, or SC.

She attended Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA where she lovingly served in the children’s department. She loved her church family and looked forward to the time when she could worship her Lord and Savior. Hearing God’s Word preached and fellowshipping with many believers was something she loved. She was actively involved in her ladies Bible studies and loved getting together with those ladies.

Melissa is irreplaceable as a wife, mother, and friend and will be deeply missed by her husband, children, and extended family and many, many friends! Our promise is to honor her memory by living a God honoring life, which she exemplified in every way!

A celebration of Melissa’s life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 19th at Heritage Baptist Church with Dr. Nathan Smith and Dr. Mike Morykon officiating.  Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
