Melvin “Bebop” Carter

Melvin \"Bebop\" Carter, 62, of Amherst, died on April 8th 2012. He was the loving husband of Lucy C. Carter.

 Bebop was born on September 30th 1949, in Lynchburg, Va., the son of the late Charles Richard Carter and Catherine Mabel Drinkard Carter. He proudly served in the Air Force for four years. Bebop was retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad where he worked for over twenty five years. He loved fishing, baseball, basketball and football. . He was a former coach for the Bruins Dixie Youth Little League Football Team. Bebop was a very active member of the American Legion Post 274 in Madison Heights, VA

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Melanie Diane Carter, three sisters, Sandra Susenbach (Don) of Richmond, Betty Fleshman (Rayford) of Appomattox and Peggy Eubank of Madison Heights; four grandchildren and other family and loved ones.

 A celebration of Bebop\"™s life will be held on Sunday April 22, 2012 at 2:00 PM at his residence.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dixie Youth Baseball Association Girl\"™s Softball Team 265 Trojan Dr. Madison Heights, VA 24572.
