Melvin H. (Doc) DeVED, age 82, of Moneta, VA died suddenly at home on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013. A private interment service will be held in the Bruce H. Cooke Memorial Garden.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Zamfino) DeVED, eight nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, Christine Seeley (Robert) and Ann Perveiler (Jack).
Doc received his high school degree through Wright Technical School, and then spent four years in the Air Force. He later received an Air Frame and Power Plant License. He worked for Sikorsky Aircraft for 29 years as lab supervisor for the Stratford and Bridgeport plants. He also worked for Textron Lycoming, makers of gas turbine engines, for nine years.
He was an active member of Trinity Ecumenical Parish, and served for nine years as property director of Village East subdivision on Smith Mountain Lake.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 13 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Ecumenical Parish by the Reverend Dr. Gary K. Scheidt and the Reverend Philip A. Bouknight.
