Melvin Ray Lawrence, 80, of Rustburg died Tuesday, August 28, 2018, a son of the late Daniel Thurman Lawrence Sr., and Elizabeth Ruth Wingfield Lawrence.
Melvin was born, January 2, 1938, disabled but enjoyed working with flowers, bottoming chairs, working puzzles, and most of all he enjoyed sitting in the front yard waving at everyone who rode by.
Melvin was a member of Rustburg Baptist Church where he attended as long as his health allowed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel L. Franklin and
Dawn McCormick and a brother, Billy W. Lawrence Sr.
He is survived by his siblings, Frances L. Reynolds of Rustburg, D. Thurman Lawrence Jr., and wife, Martha of Lynchburg, L. Elton Lawrence of Madison Heights, Levay L. Hall of Lynchburg, a good friend Carrington, and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Rustburg Baptist Church from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following with Reverend Rick Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Cumbie Memorial Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Rustburg Baptist Church, 286 Rocky Road, Rustburg, VA, 24588, or Cumbie Memorial Cemetery.
