Melvin Anthony Stahl, son of Albert and Josephine Stahl, peacefully passed away in Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia November 30th at the age of 97. He was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He loved to say that Memphis had the Mississippi River and Elvis Presley.
Melvin honorably served in World War II as a combat Army infantryman in the post-invasion military drive to liberate Europe. Following his service, he returned to Memphis and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Memphis. It was there that he met the love of his life, Lacey. They were married for 61 years until her passing in 2012.
He had a distinguished career for almost four decades working in home goods services for Proctor and Gamble, earning many awards and the respect from his peers and the company. He was described as extremely ethical at his retirement celebration given by the company and often by others throughout the years.
He was an athletic individual, excelling in baseball and tennis during his college years, and he and Lacey also enjoyed ballroom dancing. He loved a cold, frosty beer, college football, as well as chips and dip. They moved to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia in 2010. Hot Shots Bar & Grill and El Toreno Mexican Restaurant always greeted them with exceptional hospitality and cheer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lacey Drane Stahl and siblings. He is survived by his two daughters Victoria Stahl Millar (Richard), Deborah Hasty, grandchildren Richie Millar (Sarah), Melanie Millar and beloved nieces and nephews. This also includes all of those who knew and loved him throughout his extraordinary life.
Visitation will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 9th followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM at the Memphis Memorial Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee.
