Mrs. Meta Gilchrist passed away on April 16th 2016, at the Carrington Nursing Home. She was the loving wife of the late Curtis Wilson Gilchrist. She is survived by her daughter Kerry Gilchrist.
Born on December 23, 1921, Meta was the daughter of the late Ernest and Annie Gibson. Meta was born and raised on a farm in Rockbridge County where she grew up loving the outdoors which followed her through life, loving to grow vegetables and flowers with her magic green thumb. Meta was kind compassionate and loving to everyone she met. She was a dedicated nurse at Virginia Baptist Hospital for 45 years . She enjoyed sewing and shopping but eating deserts was her favorite thing. If you ever asked Meta to help put anything together you would be guaranteed to be entertained, if you asked for a screw driver you would probably get handed a wrench or pliers. Mechanical things were not her strong suit which brought a lot of laughter to any project. She was a Charter member of Peakland Methodist Church and she took great pleasure in getting involved in the activities and worship at the church.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Lewis Gibson, Denny Gibson and a sister Edith Gibson. She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched including her shared cats Olivia, CoCo Chanel and Cloey .
The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm on Monday, April 18th, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 pm April 19th 2016 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Steven Powell officiating. Those wishing to make memorial contributions consider Peakland Methodist Church or the Lynchburg Humane Society save a cat.
