Michael Wayne Barker departed this life on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, VA. Mike was born on October 21, 1958 to the late General Swanson Barker and Frances Katherine Barker.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Diane Barker; one son, Robert Brooks; three step-children, Cecil Ramsey, Deborah Ramsey, Timothy Abbott; and two grandchildren, Serenity Payne and Christian Clark.
He also leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Francis Nicole Barker (James), Brandy Wright (Danny); six grandsons, Devin Burks, James "King" Payne III, Tristan Clark, David May Jr., Dennis Slusher, Connor Brooks; three granddaughters, Hailey Brooks, Peyton Clark, and Cameron Abbott; a host of great grandchildren; he leaves three special long time friends, David May, Deborah Cash, and Deborah Duff.
Mike served the community for over 20 years through his own private lawn and landscaping business. His work was known by many and he never met a stranger. Due to health reasons, Mike retired from the great outdoors, but still loved to spend his spare time there playing golf with his "golfing buddies" at some of the local courses which he loved. If not golfing, his summer days were spent at the local pool or at the Hillcats baseball games with the grandkids. They were the light of his life and he loved spending every moment with them.
Mike loved his family and would brag about them to anyone that would listen. He was a big sports fan, specifically a die heart Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Mike's sweet giving, soul and charming personality will be missed by so many but will live on through those he loved.
The family would like to thank the the staff of Westminster Canterbury Hospice for the excellent care received in his last days.
