Michael George Shenigo

Michael George Shenigo died on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at his home.

Born on August 27, 1924, in Somerset, PA., the son of the late Michael George Shenigo and Anna Marie Shenigo. He was the husband of Rachel L. Shenigo.

Mike attended Sandusky High School in Sandusky, OH, and Ohio State University in Columbus, OH where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. In 1942, he enlisted in the Cadet Training Program of the Army Air Corps, and served as a Navigator during World War 11, achieving the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Following the war, he served as a reserve officer of the US Air Force.

Mr. Shenigo moved to Lynchburg in 1975. He was involved in the paper industry for more than 60 years and was a member of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry, the Association of Independent Corrugated Converters, and Asociación de Corrugadores del Caribe, Centro y Sur América. He retired as Chairman of the Board of Automated Conveyor Systems in 2011. He served as a Director of Central Virginia Industries, Inc. and was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Lynchburg Rotary Club, and Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, and Boonsboro Country Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Michael Shenigo and his wife Ann of Lynchburg; Thomas Shenigo and his wife Terri of Mount Holly, NC; Robert Shenigo and his wife Aimee of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Terese Bollman and her husband, John, of St. Joseph, MI; Amy Marks and her husband Jeff of Richmond, VA.; nine grandchildren, Michael Shenigo, Brennan and Barrick Bollman, Stephanie and Stephen Shenigo, Andrew and Sarah Marks, and Brant and Cole Shenigo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Shenigo. His sister, Anna Bukovac lives in Cape Coral, FL.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Cross Church on Saturday, September 7 at 11 a.m. To celebrate Mike\"™s life, the family will host a reception following the service. Burial will be at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Brenda Jones for her dedication, love and care during the past two and a half years. Thank you also to Nancy Cardwell and Sante\"™ Morris, and to Gentle Shepherd Hospice.
