Michael James Veres, 45, of Forest, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2015, after his courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Alice Lockard.
Left behind to cherish Michael’s memory are his mother and step-father, Judy and Len Halderman of Forest; his father and step-mother, Joe and Sue Veres of Ocala, Fla.; his sister, Tammy Jo Veres and family of Rustburg; and his brother Joe Veres and family of Forest.
Born on July 14, 1970, in San Diego, California, Michael was a HUGE Green Bay Packers fan, and loved nothing more than to watch them play on television. He was always there to help his family, especially his mother, in any way he could. He loved his mom so much and always respected her. Most importantly, Michael wants everyone who is a smoker to quit. It was lung cancer that took his life, and he wanted nothing more than for all of his friends to quit so they wouldn’t face the same battle he lost. If you are currently a smoker, in memory of Michael, please make every effort to quit.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015, with the Rev. Jack Barrett officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Michael requested that contributions be made to the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, 1240 Lee Street, Charlottesville, VA 22908.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
