Michael Ewing, 28, of Lynchburg, went to be with the Lord Friday, August 18, 2017. He was the loving husband of Kristen Sowers Ewing.
Michael was born March 30, 1989 in Roanoke, Va., a son of Paul Ewing and Martha Ewing. Michael graduated E.C. Glass High School in 2007. He was a talented saxophone musician in ECG marching band, concert band and jazz ensemble. Michael was a Life Scout from Lynchburg Troop 7. He also enjoyed playing paintball with his close friends. As a member of Quaker Presbyterian, he played in the hand bell choir for many years. In addition to music, Michael’s passions were cooking for his family and friends, computer technology, video gaming, and visiting the mountains and ocean. He also grew to love fishing, which he learned from his father-in-law, Bryan Sowers.
In addition to his wife and parents, Michael is survived by his twin brother, Stephen D. Ewing (wife, Autumn and step-son Brayden Wells) of Lynchburg, Va.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bryan N. Sowers and Amy A. Sowers of Lynchburg, Va.; brother-in-law, Brandon N. Sowers of Lynchburg, Va.; and his loving feline companion, Shadow (Boo Boo).
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank K. McVeigh, Jr. and Ruth H. McVeigh; paternal grandparents, John F. Ewing, Jr. and Eva W. Ewing; and an uncle John F. Ewing, Jr.
The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
