Michael Arthur Leffue, 72, of Boones Mill, went home to be with Jesus and passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 20, 2025, with his devoted wife by his side and his children nearby.
Born in Roanoke, Virginia, Michael was a nearly lifelong resident of Boones Mill. He dedicated 27 years of service to the Roanoke City Health Department and was known not only for his professional commitment, but also for his many personal talents. A gifted horticulturist and carpenter, Michael built the home he and his wife shared for over 14 years—a true labor of love.
Michael was a man of deep faith and served in various capacities at New Life Church Rocky Mount. He had a servant’s heart, always seeking ways to bless others—through his church, his craftsmanship, or his everyday kindness. He loved being outdoors and working with his hands, and was never happier than when he was building, growing, or creating.
He shared a beautiful life with his wife, Melissa, filled with travel, adventure, and the small, meaningful moments that made every day special. Michael was a devoted husband—always present, always giving. As a father, he was deeply loving and involved, raising his children, George and Casey, in faith and enriching their lives with experiences—from fishing and skiing to snorkeling and family trips. He extended this same love to his bonus children, Lacey and Reece, embracing them fully and loving them as his own.
Michael also enjoyed the simple joys of life, including time spent with his beloved Cocker Spaniels, Tommy and Fanny.
He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his selfless heart, and his brilliant sense of humor. He brought joy, laughter, and wisdom to all who knew him. Michael had a gift for storytelling and loved to entertain others with his rich repertoire of tales from the past. His stories, always told with warmth and humor, captivated everyone who had the pleasure of listening.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa; his brother, Rick, and wife, Robbie; brother-in-law, Harold Saul, and wife, Karen; his children, George and wife Hillary, Casey and husband Bob, Lacey and husband Jeff, and Reece; and his cherished grandson, Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mabel Leffue, and his sister, Anne Saul.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to our hospice angels, Penny and Donna, for their compassionate care.
A memorial service celebrating Michael’s life will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at New Life Church Rocky Mount, officiated by Pastor Tim McKenzie. Arrangements are entrusted to Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gentle Shepherd Hospice in Michael’s memory.
