Michael Stephen Marut, 90, of Concord died on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at his residence. Born August 10, 1920 in Trenton, NJ, he was a son of the late Frank Marut and Agnes Szwast Marut.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother, John Marut.
Michael is survived by his sister; Josephine Bainbridge, of Trenton, New Jersey, a nephew; Jack Marut of Seabright, NJ, and close friends and adopted family Paul and Beckie Nix, of Concord.
Mike was a Civil Engineer and spent his career with the New Jersey Department of Transportation. In his leisure time he enjoyed traveling and made several extended vacation trips up and down the east coast with his sister Josephine. In search of that perfect spot to retire, he found his final home in Virginia. After settling in the Concord area, Mike quickly adjusted to life in the country, and loved living on a farm. With time on his hands and his background in engineering Mike began work on things he had always wanted to do, including building his own computer from the frame up. He offered his treasure trove of knowledge and skills to his neighbors and friends in many ways, helping build houses, decks, pools and more. Although he grew up in the big city, Mike always had a secret wish to drive a tractor, and accomplished one of his hearts desires tending to the bush-hogging, mowing and gardening on the farm in Concord. He also invested his time in the lives of his neighbors and learned how to become a master Christmas tree shearer. Mike lived a full life, caring and giving to others, and expressed his joy in knowing that he had \"˜made a difference\"™.
