Milcie Hall Reynolds Arnold

Milcie Hall Reynolds Arnold, 93, of Forest, died Wednesday, January 20, 2021.  She was the wife of the late Carroll Edward Arnold and the late Glenn Arnold Reynolds, Sr.

Born Tuesday, October 11, 1927 in Patrick County, VA, Milcie was a daughter of the late Charlie McKinley Hall and the late Bertha Foley Hall.

Milcie is survived by her children, Glenn A. “Arnie” Reynolds, Jr. of Lynchburg, Dr. Gary W. Reynolds of Forest, Cindy Reynolds Brown Caldwell and her husband, Tony of Rustburg, and C. E. “Rusty” Arnold, Jr., and his wife, Patty of Gloucester; Grandsons, Christopher W. Brown and his wife, Victoria of Forest, Matthew and Dana Arnold of Newport News; Great-grandsons – Geoffrey Hunter Brown and Hayden Elijah Brown of Forest; her sisters and brother, Minnie Bell of Martinsville, Maxine Wood of Liberty, NC, Louella Willis of Bassett and Otis Hall and his wife, Lois of Oak Level and many nieces and nephews.  Milcie is also survived by her two wonderful, loving caretakers that are part of our family – Joyce Adkins of Rustburg and Ellen Irby of Gretna.

In addition to her parents, and her husbands, Milcie was preceded in death by her brothers – Charlie Junior Hall, Leonard Deuel Hall, Walter Ben Hall, and her sisters – Jean Hall Bell, Macell Hall Martin, and Marie Hall Spangler.

Mom grew up in the depression on a farm in Patrick County, VA.  Times were tough. Her father was tragically killed in a car crash when she was only 14 years old. Her baby sister was 3 months old, there were 11 children and mom was number 3 of the 11. She was told that “girls don’t need no education” so they took her and her elder sister out of school so that they could take care of the younger siblings and work on the farm.  She had a strong work ethic because she had no choice. The work had to be done and the majority of the work fell on the eldest.  She carried that work ethic throughout her life and instilled it in her children.

Milcie was a Justice of the Peace (now called Magistrate) for many years in Pulaski County.  She owned and operated her own property management company later in life in the Martinsville area.  Milcie was a proud member of The Order of the Eastern Star of Liberty Chapter #109 in Bedford.  She was proud of her tenures as Worthy Matron and as Grand Martha of the State Chapter.  She was also a member of Forest Baptist Church.

Mom lived her life to the fullest each and every day.  She traveled the world and the oceans and made friends anywhere she went.  She never met a stranger, and no one forgot meeting “Milcie” either.

Mom loved her family dearly and delighted in spending time with us at any opportunity she could. Birthdays, Thanksgiving, Easter, Mother’s Day, Christmas, 4th of July, etc. If it was a holiday (or just a day we could be together as family), it was to be celebrated and we were to be together.  That is evident by the multitude of family photos she leaves behind for us to cherish in our memories.

The family is especially grateful for the men and women of Centra Hospice who not only lovingly took care of her but also took care of our family.  Mom was not just a “patient”, she was treated with dignity, respect, and most importantly, love.  We all felt we were a part of the Centra Hospice family as they were ours.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a time from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, January 22, 2021, for family and friends to pay their respects and sign the register at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg.  A private family Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Gaylen Leverett officiating.
