Mildred Elizabeth Hines Thomas, 80, departed this life Monday, March 3, 2013 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of Sidney David Thomas, Jr.
Born February 8, 1933, in Lynchburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late C. H. Hines and the late Elizabeth Lambert Hines.
She is survived by three daughters: Vicki and her husband Kern Lunsford, Sharon and her husband Larry Rickmon, Cindy and her husband Dave Hanowitz; one son: Sidney David Thomas, III; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her wonderful family at Valley View.
Mildred graduated from Lynchburg College. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church and Heritage United Methodist Church. She loved to sing in the church choir and play hand bells. She will be remembered by many as a beloved piano teacher and volunteer at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Mildred made friends wherever she went. Everyone who met her loved her. You could always count on her for a warm smile, a kind work, a bit of advice or a little sass. She loved her God, her family and her wonderful friends with all of her heart. To know Mildred, was to be truly blessed.
The family would like to express a special thank-you to the amazing staff at Centra Specialty Hospital for the care they gave to her and the family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, March 8, 2013 at Heritage United Methodist Church with the Rev. Megan Saucier officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday, March 7, 2013.
