Mildred Payne Floyd

Mildred Payne Floyd, age 69, of Gladys earned her wings on Monday, June 8, 2015. She was a graduate of Brookville High School Class of 1964. Mildred was the office manager at Candler Oil Company where she worked for almost 49 years.   She loved her family and took great delight in watching her grandsons play sports. Mildred loved knitting, shopping trips and many vacation trips. She was a member of Credit Professionals International where she had held many positions including President. Mildred was also a member of The “Bull” Group where she shared many laughs.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edward Swanson Payne and Mary Wright Payne, a brother Jerry Edward Payne.

Surviving are a daughter, Teresa Floyd Ashby of Rustburg, a son, Edward (Eddie) L. Floyd and wife, Misty of Madison Heights, three grandsons, Zane Lee Ashby of Rustburg, Hunter Blake Floyd and Tyler Wade Floyd of Madison Heights, sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda P. Porter and husband, David of Durham, N.C., Delma P. Elmore and husband, Danny of Forest; and long-time companion and special friend, Steve Holt and her loving cat, Sarah, of Gladys, his son, Stephen Holt and his wife, Beth, of Appomattox. She is also survived by her former husband and father of her children, Lewis M. Floyd of Rustburg and also loved by many nieces and nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Mildred’s life was held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 11, 2015 in Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Burial followed in Altavista Memorial Park.

The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
